PWT Scholarship
Press Women of Texas offers a $500 scholarship in 2021 to students preparing for a career in journalism or communications.
The scholarship goes to a student at a Texas college or university and is administered by Press Women of Texas.
To be eligible for the $500 scholarship, the student must be at least a second-semester sophomore enrolled in a Texas college or university accredited program, preparing for a career in communications.
To apply for the scholarship, please complete the application; and provide the following:
1. A one-page essay – “Why I chose the field of communications.”
2. Two letters of reference: one from a professor, teacher, dean or advisor in the student’s college or university; and one personal letter of reference from a non-relative adult.
3. Transcript or other proof of current enrollment.

Dear Applicant,
We are pleased you are applying for our scholarship funding opportunity. We invite all Journalism and Communications majors who are in at least the second semester of their sophomore year of college to apply for this $500 award.
The selection committee is seeking men or women with a need for financial assistance. We look forward to receiving your application.
DEADLINE: Applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, May 19, 2021.
Please do not e-mail your application. All application packets are to be mailed to: Press Women of Texas Scholarship, c/o Bonnie Arnold, 118 Crestwood Dr., Kerrville, TX 78028. The recipient will be notified by June 2, 2021, and invited to attend the annual conference (date to be announced) in Texas in mid- to late June, 2021. Funds will be made available to the college of the recipient’s choice.
Eligibility Requirements
1. To qualify, the applicant must be a man or woman in at least the second semester of his or her sophomore year of college.
2. Applicant must be an enrolled student in a Texas college or university in an accredited Journalism or Communications department major.
3. The applicant must provide proof of enrollment or a letter of acceptance for the next enrollment period.
4. Financial assistance will be for tuition, fees and/or books.
5. Past recipients are eligible to reapply.
6. The applicant must be available for a telephone interview if the selection committee chooses to include that.
Submission requirements
1. The application must be legibly printed or typed.
2. Complete all sections of the application.
3. Include two letters of reference, one from a professor or advisor and one from a non-family member.
4. Include a transcript from your current or last semester/year of college.
5. Include a color photo, at least a head and shoulders photograph, for future award announcement.
6. Submit a one-page essay (legibly written or typewritten) - “Why I chose the field of communications.”
